Tanya Paperny was discovered among the shaggy carpeting in the household of a family of recent Russian immigrants in 1986. Ever since then, she has been spotted riding her bicycle through Los Angeles traffic, taking long Greyhound bus trips with angry Slavic bus drivers to various points North, drawing pictures, writing in journals, and most recently, taking amateur pictures that rarely, if ever, involve people. Despite this peculiarity, she has a particular interest in human interaction and conversation. One can delight Tanya with talk of community justice, immigrant culture, artsy fartsy kitsch and music, yummy and obscure cooking, and baby animals. Try her, she’s open.

In all seriousness, I’m a graduate student in Creative Writing at Columbia University in New York, emphasizing in non-fiction.  Prior to that, I lived in Washington, DC and worked as an organizer with Campus Progress. “The movement,” culture, family, and LGBT stuff are the fodder for my writing.
